Recent advances on the preparation and application of graphene quantum dots for mercury detection: a systematic review

The mercury ion (Hg2+) is regarded as one of the toxic cations that extremely harmful and dangerous to human health environment. With this growing awareness, it imperative facile rapid sensing systems developed for detection Hg2+. Due excellent sensitivity selectivity, graphene quantum dots (GQDs), a zero-dimensional carbon nanomaterial, are attracting attention researchers promising candidates fluorescent probes Hg2+ detection. This study aimed at conducting an in-depth review recent advances into GQD-based materials in sensing. systematic was carried out by covering three main databases, namely, Scopus Science Direct dominant followed Google Scholar supporting database. encompassing bare GQDs, N-GQDs, B, N, S-GQDs, K-GQDs, RhB-GQDs, Cys-GQDs, PEHA-GQD-DPA, Gly-GQDs, Mn(II)-N-GQDs, NH2–Ru@ SiO2-NGQDs FA-GQDs were discussed thoroughly with regard their synthesis strategies, along potential application doping heteroatoms envisaged enhance yield selectivity GQDs. might unlock wide range opportunities various adaptable, feasible scalable approach
